There is no better time of year to raise a glass of sparkling wine than during the holiday season. Many sparkling wines provide great quality at reasonable prices compared to their counterparts coming from the Champagne Region of France.
Here are four favorites:
Gruet - Brut NV - Produced in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Straw colored with hints of green apple and brioche and fine bubbles. Produced from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Gruet has been making quality sparkling wine for decades. Approximately $15.00.
Saint Hilaire - Brut NV - Produced in Limoux, France. This is France’s oldest sparkling wine. It is dry, toasty and smooth with aromatics of peach, pear and green apple with a creamy mouth feel. Made from 90% Mauzac, 5% Chenin Blanc and 5% Chardonnay. Approximately $14.00
Zaha - Cuvee Reserve Blanc de Blancs NV - Produced in Argentina. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this sparkler shows hints of white peach, pear and a hint of butter. Approximately $20.00
Dulong - Cremant de Bordeaux - Rose Brut NV - Produced in Bordeaux, France. This sparkling Rose has aromas of apricot and grapefruit zest with a hint of raspberry. It is medium bodied, dry and fresh with crisp acidity. Approximately $18.00
